Google maps

In maths we have been learning about google maps and how to use it. I have learnt that it shows you all different kinds of transport such as driving, walking, biking and many other things. It shows you the fastest route, the directions to get there, street views and it does the same thing for the whole world. There is an activity to do at the end, it will be really fun. I can't wait for all the feed back.

  1. Hi Amie,

I found that I could walk to Prawn Park from Huka Falls in 41 mins and drive in 4 mins via Karetoto Rd and Huka Falls Rd. Thanks for sharing your learning about google maps. Did you know you could search for schools near to Huka Falls using Google maps?

  2. Super learning Amie. I love using Google Maps. It helps me to plan a drive especially telling me how long it takes or directions to a new part I have never driven to before. I hope you continue to use this app to help your family plan a trip! Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you for commenting Mrs Fox. Yes I do use it to help with where we are going if it's somewhere we haven't been before.

    2. Thank you Amie and Mrs Fox. I too love finding out how long it takes me to get somewhere so that I don't end up getting there too early or too late.

  4. Kia ora Amie. Your slideshow was presented well. The layout made it easy to find the information you wanted to share. Be more mindful as to what you are sharing and who you are sharing with as your journey to school can be mapped and followed by other people.

  5. Hi Amie, I really liked how to designed an activity for people to complete themselves. Was there a quick way to find out how long it will take to get from one place to another?

  6. Hi Amie, you've put some great thought into your slide. If I have to go somewhere new, I like to go on Google Maps to see what the building looks like, so that when I'm driving, I can spot it easier. Very helpful. How did you make the blue line on the map to show your route? Mrs Maritz Park Estate School

  7. Hi Amie,

I am a teacher at Papakura High School and have had a look a tyour activity. I found that one driving route from Taupo Airport to Huka falls is 13.2km and takes 17 minutes. The other route it suggested would take 16 minutes but is 20.1 kms long. It does show that the shorter route is experiencing traffic at this time of the day. Have you considered how the time of day/ traffic might affect your task?

I have enjoyed your little task, and it is great to see how many people have given it a go :)

  8. Kia ora Amie. What a cool presentation. I am impressed. I am going to suggest my teachers at Paihia School check out your work and maybe teach their children something similar. Google maps are very useful. What did you find most difficult? How else could you use Google maps for?
